BBI Course
A Ministry of the Marlborough Bible Baptist Church

 

Apologetics

This course defends the divine origin of the word of God and Christianity in general, providing the student with the tools to "earnestly contend for the faith."

Bible I-VI

These six classes cover every verse of the English Bible, from Genesis to Revelation. This course is self-study and involves materials from the New Zealand Correspondence School of the Bible.

Biblical Counselling I-II

A study of the principles of biblical counselling; special attention will be given to the many unbiblical methods and philosophies of counselling in existence today. Strategies will be developed for dealing with the various problems the counsellor is likely to encounter.

Christian Education (Ladies only)

A course to prepare ladies for the various teaching ministries available to them in the local church.

Church History I-II

A study of the history of the true church of Jesus Christ since the time of Christ and its relationship to Christendom over the past 2000 years. Special attention will be given to the history and distinctives of those who have taken the name 'baptist' throughout history.

Creation/Evolution

Because of the particular problems present in our society and culture due to the false teaching of evolution, this course will look in depth at the issue with a view to provide the student with a thorough Biblical understanding of creationism as well as scientific proofs to the same end.

Cults & False Religions

A study of the history and teachings of the various cults, denominations and world religions in existence today. Particular emphasis will be placed on strategies for dealing with adherents to these religions.

English

A study of english grammar, poetry and writing skills with a particular emphasis on using these skills for the work of the ministry.

Godly Women (Ladies only)

A study of Biblical womanhood, both in doctrine and example.

Life of Christ

An overview of the life of Jesus Christ in the Gospels designed to familiarize the student with the parables, sermons and works of our Lord.

Life of Paul

An overview of the life of Paul as recorded in the book of Acts and in his epistles, noting his methods and accomplishments in establishing churches.

Local Church I-II

A thorough overview of the doctrine, workings and methods of the local church; this study will include the principles of pastoral theology, Sunday school administration, youth and other ministries, leadership and time management training and strategies for church planting.

Manuscript Evidence I-II

A thorough study of the history of our English Bible and it's relationship to the many versions in existence today. This course is designed to provide the student with the tools to defend his final authority.

Missions I-II

A study of the history of Christian missions from the book of Acts until today; also investigated will be mission strategies, problems and the practical aspects of missions today.

Old Testament History

A survey of the history of Israel and how this affects our interpretation of the word of God.

Personal Evangelism & Discipleship

A study of the basics of the doctrine of salvation, how to lead people to a saving knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ and the means and methods of grounding new believers in the basics of the word of God.

Practical Ministry

An area of ministry outside of the classroom where the student puts into practice the things learned in the classroom. This responsibility will include regular evangelism as well as working in the various ministries of the Marlborough Bible Baptist Church..

Preparation and Delivery of Sermons I-II (Men only)

Also known as homiletics - The practical means of constructing and delivering sermons.

Principles of Bible Interpretation

Also known as hermeneutics - A study of the proper rules and methods to be used for interpreting the Bible..

Principles of Teaching

An overview of how to teach the Bible to any given group of people. As well as being a refresher course in how to study the Bible, practical teaching strategies and methods will be discussed.

Problem Texts I-II

A study of the majority of the "tough passages" and apparent "contradictions" in the Bible.

Prophesy and Future Events

A study of what the Bible teaches concerning the end times.

Rightly Dividing the Word

Also known as dispensationalism - A study of the kingdom of heaven verses the kingdom of God; an in-depth look at God's plan for the ages and how this affects one's interpretation of Scripture.

Theology I-IV

Four terms of study that will ground the student in the doctrines of the word of God; includes the doctrine of the Father, Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit, Angels, Satan, Man, Sin, Salvation, the Church, Heaven, Hell, etc.
